Man Charged With Stealing Child's Wheelchair Ramp
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

(West Warwick-AP) -- Police charged a West Warwick man with stealing a disabled child's wheelchair ramp and sending it to a Providence scrapyard.

Forty-eight-year-old Michael Ferrara was charged with felony larceny. Police say Ferrara took the ramp from Natalie Medeiros' driveway.

Medeiros says Ferrara came to her door last week and asked if he could buy the ramp. He said he was starting a moving business and could use it. Medeiros explained she needed the ramp for her nine-year-old daughter, who has cerebral palsy.

A neighbor of Ferrara called police after hearing about the theft. She told police he had dragged a metal ramp behind their building, and later removed it. Police recovered the ramp from a Providence scrapyard and returned it to Medeiros.
