Soldier's lawyer says military intelligence ordered abuse
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Undated-AP -- A lawyer for one of the soldiers facing charges in the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal says his client was following orders from military intelligence.

Guy Womack tells A-B-C's "Good Morning America" that the now-notorious photos of U-S soldiers allegedly humiliating Iraqi detainees were staged by intelligence officers.

Womack says his client -- Specialist Charles Graner -- sought clarification from commanding officers and military intelligence about what he was being told to do. He says they told him to follow orders.

The attorney says he feels sorry for Specialist Jeremy Sivits, who pleaded guilty today to three counts of abuse of Iraqi prisoners. Womack says Sivits was following orders just like Graner.

Graner and two other soldiers have put off their pleas pending an upcoming hearing.
