Local park becomes a car dealership as over a hundred new cars left in park parking lot
More than one-hundred cars from a local dealership - parked in a nearby park! and that's not all - only Eyewitness News cameras catch a car salesman in action - selling a car on town property.
Some park-goers say Gov. Notte Park has had a make-over... Take a look - these cars all for sale, all jammed into this North Providence town park - and the mayor says, they've all overstayed their welcome.
The melting ice and snow - on a warmer weekday afternoon... But the scenic beauty smudged a bit - some say - by all of this! jim mccauley runs the sportsman club that shares a parking lot with the town park.
The perfect spot - he says - until about a month ago, when Rizzo Ford moved all these cars to the park's parking lot. North Providence Mayor Ralph Mollis says he knows about the cars, because he gave it the o-k. Mayor mollis says the cars were only permitted to stay for a short time.
But he says time's up now - because our cameras caught a salesman walking two customers through the scenic town park - checking out the deals. The owner of Rizzo Ford is out of town... But in a telephone interview, he questions why it's a big deal. Saying -quote - we support the town and the mayor.
We're the biggest taxpayer in town and needed the space for an over-abundance of cars. Robert rizzo says this is not policy - car sales caught on tape on taxpayer land! the mayor says it's no deal - just common courtesy to all his town businesses.
But he admits Rizzo may have gone too far. Mayor mollis says the cars would be moved starting today... But he says, he would do this again for any business who needs space - temporarily - including Rizzo ford. They just can't do business here.
