Local Teens caught up in drug cocktailing
Forget about basic arithmetic. One plus one doesn't always equal two. Sometimes, it adds up to much more than that. It's the latest rage among high school kids - mixing prescription drugs with our culture's longstanding drug of choice, alcohol.
But there's nothing funny about combining alcohol with prescription drugs. In East Greenwich recently, several high school students have ended up in the hospital after partying too hard. A veteran juvenile police officer sees a big change in the way teenagers abuse alcohol.
Teenagers told us they have easy access to prescription drugs. They steal them from their parents, they sell pills to each other, they even abuse their own medications.
Unafraid of the warnings on the labels. The police here are not optimistic about being able to teach teenagers about the dangers of mixing prescription drugs with alcohol. Educating them about the dangers of alcohol has been hard enough. It's one of those harsh truths. Death is often the best teacher.
