(Newport-AP) -- A Coast Guard patrol boat that ran aground off Newport this morning has been freed. The 87-foot patrol boat is a cutter called Chinook. It's based out of New London, Connecticut.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrew Shinn says the cutter ran aground off Coddington Cove at about 8:30 a-m. Witnesses say the boat was free as of 10:30 a-m.
The patrol boat had been moored off Newport, but hit ground about 300 yards north of Aquidenck Island's Coddington Cove after its mooring broke loose. It had been in the area on routine patrol. None of the ten crew members was injured. There was no apparent damage.
