New Drug Trafficking Concerns
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

This morning local police are warning of new car dangers.

Officials say there is a growing trend in many cities in towns in Rhode Island for car thieves to use your stolen car as a means of drug trafficking.

According to police, addicts are lending cars - which are either their own or stolen - to drug dealers in exchange for drugs.

Police say the reason is that drug dealers don't want their personal cars confiscated if they get caught in the act. The stolen vehicles are also used to reduce suspicion, because police are more likely to recognize a known drug dealer's vehicle.

Officials say they started picking up on the crime about six months ago.
