Bruins beat Detroit Red Wings 3-to-2

(Worcester-AP) -- Mike Knuble scored two goals and Andrew Raycroft made 34 saves to lift the Boston Bruins to a 3-to-2 exhibition win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Worcester Centrum last night.

Boston held off Detroit despite power-play goals by Brett Hull and Brendan Shanahan within a 25-second span in the final five minutes of the game. The Bruins were also whistled for seven minor penalties in the third period.

Down three goals, the Red Wings capitalized on a two-man advantage when Hull scored with 4:56 left. Shanahan cut the deficit to 3-to-2 just 25 seconds later when he scored from point-blank range.

Knuble converted a pass from Sergei Samsonov pass while streaking down right wing to beat Marc Lamothe at 8:39 of the third and make it 3-0.

Samsonov had three assists, and Joe Thornton added a his first goal of the preseason and an assist for Boston.
