Two horses have tested positive for the West Nile virus
(Providence-AP) -- Two horses in the state have tested positive for the
West Nile virus.
The Department of Environmental Health says the virus, a mosquito-borne illness that can be fatal to humans, is prevalent throughout the state.
The state has reported two cases in humans this year. Both of those victims recovered.
The horses are also recovering.
One horse is stabled in Hopkinton, the other in Charlestown.
The state is urging Rhode Islanders to take precautions against mosquito bites until the first hard frost.
