Trot Nixon says he hopes to start in right field tonight

( Oakland, California-AP) -- Trot Nixon says he hopes to start in right field for the Red Sox tonight in game one of the divisional playoff series against Oakland.

But the final decision will be up to manager Grady Little.

Nixon strained his left calf muscle in a game on September ninth and since then, has taken only 12 at-bats. He says the injury feels much better, but that his timing may be off at the plate.

Nixon finished the regular season with a .306 average, 28 homers and 87 runs batted in.

If he canÔŅĹt start tonight, Little may go with Gabe Kaplar in right.
