Iraq M16s
Baghdad-AP -- The U-S military says soldiers from the Fourth Infantry Division have recovered two M-16 rifles belonging to soldiers abducted and killed north of Baghdad back in June. A spokesman says the rifles were found in the trunk of a car stopped after a firefight about 30 miles north of Baghdad.
Lieutenant Colonel George Krivo says the car tried to run a checkpoint set up after a roadside bomb went off last night, and that's what triggered the shooting. He says one Iraqi was killed and three others captured.
Krivo says the military has launched an investigation to determine how the captured men got the M-16s and whether they were involved in the original kidnapping.
He says the military tracked the serial numbers on the guns to determine that they belonged to the slain soldiers.
