(Providence-AP) -- Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev is making an appearance at Brown University today.

He�ll be receiving an honorary degree and giving a lecture.

Gorbachev is scheduled to speak on democracy�s impact on globalization.

Gorbachev stepped down in 1991 as the Soviet Union collapsed.

He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.
