Red Sox report: Roster

SS Nomar Garciaparra is back in the No. 3 spot in the lineup after three games batting second.

BATTING ORDER

1. CF Johnny Damon -- Started Sunday after missing four straight games due to a strained abdominal muscle.

2. 2B Todd Walker -- A nine-game hitting streak (15-for-35) ended Friday.

3. SS Nomar Garciaparra -- Reached the 100-RBI mark Saturday for the fourth time in his career.

4. LF Manny Ramirez -- Begins the week on a 34-for-89 tear.

5. 1B-DH David Ortiz -- Rested Sunday after enduring a 2-for-14 slide.

6. 1B-OF Kevin Millar -- Went 2-for-4 Saturday and Sunday, breaking a 4-for-34 skid.

7. RF Trot Nixon -- Returned to the lineup Saturday after missing 10 games with a torn left calf muscle and hit his 27th homer.

8. 3B Bill Mueller -- Returned to the lineup Sunday after missing two games with lower back spasms.

9. C Jason Varitek -- In a 7-for-32 slump.

BACKUPS
OF Gabe Kapler, INF-OF Damian Jackson, C Doug Mirabelli, 1B-OF Dave McCarty, INF Lou Merloni, 1B-OF Andy Abad, C Bill Haselman, OF Adrian Brown.

Kapler was 18-for-53 in 18 starts through Sept. 14. Jackson is on a five-game hitting streak (5-for-18). Mirabelli is 33-for-122 (.270) in last 46 starts. McCarty has not played since pinch hitting Sept. 6 at New York. Merloni started two games at third base for Bill Mueller. Abad had his first major league hit Sept. 17 off RHP Victor Zambrano. Haselman has not made an appearance since Sept. 6. Brown made his first Red Sox start Sept. 17 in center field.

ROTATION

1. RHP Pedro Martinez -- Has won 12 of his last 14 decisions.

2. RHP Tim Wakefield -- Came up two innings short of his first complete game since 1998 on Sept. 18.

3. RHP Derek Lowe -- Lost a decision Saturday for the first time since Aug. 8.

4. RHP John Burkett -- Helped his chances for spot in the post-season rotation with 2-0 win over Indians Sept. 19.

5. RHP Jeff Suppan -- Has allowed 21 homers in 192 innings.

BULLPEN

RHP Byung-Hyun Kim -- Earned save Sunday two days after leaving a game after hitting two batters with two outs in the ninth.

LHP Alan Embree -- Earned his first save of the season Sunday.

RHP Mike Timlin -- First batters are hitting .138 off him (9-for-65).

LHP Scott Sauerbeck -- Has allowed nine earned runs on 10 hits in last 11 outings.

RHP Scott Williamson -- Limiting left-handed batters to .182 average while with Boston (4-for-22).

RHP Todd Jones -- Last appeared on Sept. 12.

RHP Bronson Arroyo -- Has not appeared since Sept. 14.

LHP Casey Fossum -- Has made one appearance since recall from Pawtucket on Sept. 2.

RHP Brandon Lyon - Left-handed batters are hitting .300 off him.

RHP Ramiro Mendoza - Has appeared just once since August 2.
