Providence taps state police captain as emergency director

(Providence-AP) -- State police Captain Leo Messier has been tapped to lead Providence�s emergency management agency.

He�ll oversee the agency and ensure the city�s agencies have a coordinated emergency response to any disaster.

Messier is a 24-year veteran of the State Police and served as District �A� Commander�the sixth highest ranking member of the division.

He is taking over the position formerly held by acing E-M-A Director John Enright.

Messier is a graduate of Roger Williams University.

He begins his new position November Third.
