Cut Health Care Costs
(HealthDayNews) -- Keep your health care costs down by following your insurance plan's rules and procedures, advises the government of Massachusetts. Here are some tips:
- Ask your doctor for drug alternatives. Bring your HMO or Express Scripts to find the most appropriate, cost-effective prescription.
- Notify your plan within 24 hours of an emergency room visit or inpatient admission.
- If your coverage includes a student over age 19, keep your student verification forms up to date.
- Consider using your community hospital for routine care. Although out-of-pocket costs usually won't vary between hospitals, use of expensive hospitals for everyday medical issues affects health care premiums for everyone.
