An unidentified 42-year-old man with a malignant tumor affecting his tongue and jaw has become the world's first tongue transplant recipient.

The 14-hour operation was done Saturday at Vienna's General Hospital. Doctors removed the tumor and attached the new tongue, a hospital spokeswoman said, the Associated Press reports.

The patient was reported to be in good condition, but additional details were not available, the spokeswoman said.
