Earthquake shakes Kentucky, Illinois
Bardwell, Kentucky-AP -- An earthquake has shaken part of the Mississippi River Valley. It cracked sidewalks in western Kentucky and rattled pictures off walls, but there are no reports of injuries.
Authorities say the four-point-five quake hit shortly before 7:30 a-m, Eastern time, near Blandville, Kentucky, about 25 miles southwest of Paducah. It was felt from Illinois to Arkansas.
The U-S Geological Survey says the quake was centered about six miles below the surface.
Near the epicenter in Carlisle County, an emergency management official says the quake cracked sidewalks, broke windows and knocked pictures off walls. It also cracked an archway at the county courthouse.
The county's 9-1-1 system went down temporarily when it was inundated with calls.
Last June, a magnitude-five earthquake shook western Kentucky and Indiana from an epicenter northwest of Evansville, Indiana.
