Submarine patrols aqueduct in search for leaks in New York water supply
Wawarsing, New York-AP -- That's not a giant rat in the aqueduct supplying water to New York City. It's a submarine.
The eight-foot-long sub is using its sensors and cameras to look for major leaks in a system that experts think might be leaking more than a (b) billion gallons of water each month.
Some officials say the breaks might be so big that the only thing keeping the aqueduct from collapsing is water pressure.
The aqueduct carries about 890 (m) million gallons each day from reservoirs in the Catskill Mountains into New York City and surrounding counties.
