Raccoon rescued from 253-foot amusement park tower
New York-AP -- Rocky Raccoon is safe and sound. Two weeks ago the so-nicknamed masked marauder climbed atop a 253-foot amusement park tower at New York's Coney Island.
An elevator maintenance worker discovered the critter when he saw "a pair of eyes looking at him" from the darkness of the elevator motor room.
A few days later, though, there was no sign of the animal.
But then last weekend, Rocky was spotted anew, and park officials decided a rescue was in order.
An Astroland Amusement Park employee caught the raccoon using an animal-friendly cage baited with -- what else? -- a Nathan's Famous hot dog.
"But without the sauerkraut," the park manager is quick to point out.
Rescuers admit there was a little cat food mixed in with the bait.
