U-S will be cautious in freeing Guantanamo prisoners
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

STATE DEPARTMENT Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Washington will move cautiously in freeing prisoners held at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba.

She told The Associated Press it's "a delicate balance." In a few of the cases in which prisoners were released, the secretary said, "we met them again on the battlefield."

Rice says the Bush administration wants to send prisoners home, when it can be determined they're not a threat to the United States.

On other issues, she said Syria's pledge to remove its troops and intelligence agents from Lebanon can't necessarily be trusted.

And asked whether anyone should be fired over pre-war intelligence failures in Iraq, she responded, "That's not my call."
