Superintendent of Naval Academy resigns
Washington-AP -- The superintendent of the Naval Academy has resigned. That comes in response to a finding by Navy investigators who say he had improper contact with a Marine sentry at the academy on New Year's Eve.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Vice Admiral Richard Naughton got upset after the sentry asked for his I-D. Naughton was dressed in civilian clothes and with a group of friends. The newspaper says at one point the guard backed away and reached for his pepper spray.
An investigation by the Navy's inspector general found that Naughton grabbed the sentry's wrist. The investigation also found a "general failure to promote good morale."
Naughton submitted his resignation yesterday after a year on the job.
