Sea bass possession limit cut in half today
(Providence-AP) -- The amount of sea bass commercial fishermen can take in per vessel is being cut in half today.
The Department of Environmental Management says commercial fishing license holders can possess fifty pounds of sea bass per vessel, down from one hundred.
The decision to reduce the possession limit was made to prevent the fishery from closing early.
The action is part of D-E-MÔŅĹs ongoing efforts to manage the annual allocation of black sea bass to Rhode Island from the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.
The possession limit will be increased to one hundred pounds on August First.
