Pawtucket Red Sox cancel fireworks display after mishap
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

PAWTUCKET, R.I The Pawtucket Red Sox canceled a post-game fireworks display scheduled for tonight.

The move came after six people were injured during fireworks after last night's PawSox game at McCoy Stadium.

The Red Sox posted the announcement on the team's Web site.

The accident occurred at about 11 p-m, shortly after the Red Sox lost 5-to-4 in 13 innings to the Charlotte Knights.

Officials say a fireworks shell exploded as soon as it came out of its tube last night. That triggered what Batallion Chief Michael Carter called a "chain reaction" and caused other fireworks on the ground to go off.

Carter says five workers were injured and a sixth fan was hurt. But the police department says four workers and two fans were hurt.

Everyone taken to the hospital has been released.
