PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Citing the recent slaying of a Florida girl, one lawmaker is pushing for tougher laws targeting sex offenders.

Senator James Doyle of Pawtucket has introduced legislation that would make harboring a sex offender a crime.

Violators would face up to five years in prison and fines. The legislation comes after nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford was raped and killed by a registered sex offender in Florida.
