House passes dam management bill
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The Rhode Island House has passed a bill that would bring local control to dams throughout the state.
The bill sponsored by Representative Bruce Long would enable municipal ruling bodies to establish dam management districts within their boundaries. There are an estimated 500 dams in Rhode Island. Long, a Middletown Republican, says the local management districts can help ensure the dams are operating properly and are protected. The bill now goes to the Senate.
