University of Colorado, fraternities at impasse on rush
BOULDER, Colo. The University of Colorado is trying to shed its party school image. The school is demanding that fraternities postpone their traditional fall rush. It wants the recruiting period delayed until the spring semester. But the move has outraged the 16 fraternities at Colorado who complain it'll cost them enrollment dues and wreck recruiting. One fraternity member says it would "kill off the Greek system in terms of numbers."
The school says freshmen need time to adjust to college before pledging a fraternity. The university is threatening to deny fraternities the use of such things as campus meeting rooms, playing fields and lists of incoming freshmen unless they comply.
The Princeton Review labeled Colorado two years ago as the nation's top party school.
