Economists predict another rise in interest rates
WASHINGTON Economists are nearly unanimous in their belief that Federal Reserve Board policymakers will raise interest rates another quarter-point today. It would be the eighth increase in the past year, and would boost the federal funds rate to three percent.
Analysts say the jump in interest rates has already been factored into the market.
The big question is what will be in the policy statement that accompanies the decision on interest rates.
Analysts and investors alike want to see what policymakers have to say about the recent slowdown in economic growth and the prospects for inflation.
