Army Corps proposes restoring fish passage on Ten Mile River
EAST
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The U-S Army Corps of Engineers has proposed restoring a historic fish run along the Ten Mile River in East Providence.
The proposal involves creating fish passages at three areas: Omega Pond Dam, Hunts Mill Dam and Turner Reservoir Dam.
The Corps says the fishways would help adult blueback herring, alewife and American shad to migrate to historic spawning grounds of the Ten Mile River watershed. The Corps also wants to build migrant slots to help juveniles make it downstream.
The Corps worked with state environmental officials, the city of East Providence and the environmental group Save the Bay to develop the proposal.
