Texas man who turned to billboards to solicit liver donation has died
HOUSTON A man who got a liver transplant after advertising for the organ on Houston billboards has died. Todd Krampitz had been suffering from cancer when he placed his ads last year. A family of a man who died heard about Krampitz' ordeal and donated the dead man's organ.
Krampitz died last week, about eight months after undergoing transplant surgery.
The Houston Chronicle says it's not clear if Krampitz succumbed to liver cancer, transplant-related complications or some other cause.
Some had complained that by advertising, Krampitz received a liver that should have gone to someone in greater need.
The hospital where the transplant took place says it hopes the story raises organ donation awareness.
