Hunter Hill Vineyard and Winery Announces San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Selects 2002 Syrah As Double Gold Winner
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

SAN FRANCISCO, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunter Hill Vineyard and Winery today announced judges at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition awarded its 2002 Syrah a Double Gold Medal. Out of 3200 wine entries from over 900 winery brands from California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, Hunter Hill's 2002 Syrah from Arroyo Seco Mesa Del Sol Vineyard is a Double Gold Winner in the $20.00 - $29.00 Category. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition public tasting is this Saturday at Fort Mason, tickets on sale at http://www.winejudging.com/.

Judges designate the Double Gold Award to those wines that scored a "unanimous gold vote by a five-member judging pane." The award is to recognize the wines the judges believe to have special characteristics over and above the other gold medal recipients.

Established in 1998, Hunter Hill Winery is owned by Vann and Christine Slatter. The winemaker, Vann Slatter, hand selected only the best quality fruit to create the award winning Syrah. Made from 100 percent Syrah from the Arroyo Seco Appellation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 2 years. This 2002 vintage displays hints of smoky bacon, cinnamon spice and has a soft ripe texture. It exhibits the true character of Syrah varietals and has quickly become a favorite among the wineries customers.

In addition to the Double Gold Medal winner Syrah, Hunter Hill also wins a Silver Medal for its 2003 Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast, and a Bronze Medal for it's 2002 Zinfandel from Lodi. "Hunter Hill strives to make the best wine by using only the finest grapes possible," said Christine Slatter. "We are delighted to be recognized as a leading producer by winning these award from the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle competition."
