Angelina Jolie helps launch legal center for refugee children
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

WASHINGTON Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has come to the nation's capital to promote her favorite cause: aiding refugees.

The Oscar-winning actress has given more than three (m) million dollars to the effort. That includes 500-thousand dollars to help bankroll an organization that will provide free legal aid to the thousands of children who arrive alone to the U-S each year as refugees and immigrants.

Speaking at the National Press Club, she outlined plans for the Washington-based National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children. It's expected to open shop this spring.

It will recruit and train lawyers nationwide to work pro bono for young arrivals.

Asked if she would ever seek public office, Jolie said she has "too many skeletons" in her closet "for politics."
