Worker safe after 25-foot fall into well
SEEKONK, Mass. A dramatic rescue of a 33-year-old man who fell into a well in Seekonk yesterday. Fred Jaswell, who works for a Johnston (Rhode Island)-company, had gone about ten feet down the well on a ladder to make repairs. When the ladder broke, Jaswell fell about 25 feet underground.
Jaswell then became wedged between the well's wall and the ladder. That prevented him from falling any farther. It also saved him from plunging into icy water at the bottom of the 55-foot well.
Jaswell suffered some injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
The Seekonk Fire Department credited the technology and training of the East Providence Fire Department with rescuing Jaswell.
