Groups push for legislation to provide women better jobs after welfare
PROVIDENCE, R.I. Community organizations, social service providers and others are gathering at the Statehouse today to announce new legislation to help women on welfare get off of it and find better jobs. The groups say they are fighting to make sure women can access education because that is what will raise their incomes out of poverty level.
According to a report by the Rhode Island Women's Fund and the Rhode Island Foundation, women make up the largest number of heads of household on cash assistance.
