Chafee takes reserved approach to UN ambassador nomination
WASHINGTON Senator Lincoln Chafee is taking a reserved approach to the controversial nomination of John Bolton to be the next U.S. ambassador to the UN. Chafee is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee.
After yesterday's announcement that Bolton was tapped for the UN post, Chafee said he has been assured Bolton will bring a balanced approach to his new role.
Bolton, who now serves as undersecretary of state, is an outspoken arms control expert not known for diplomatic nuance. During his tenure in the State Department, Bolton has rankled lawmakers with his tough foreign policy talk.
With both Republicans and Democrats wary of the nomination, Bolton's confirmation will likely be a fight.
