Snow and Bolten testify on administration budget
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

CAPITOL HILL The administration's point men on the budget came under sharp attack as they made their first trip to Capitol Hill to sell the president's spending proposal.

Democrats launched sharply worded criticisms and questions at Treasury Secretary John Snow and Budget Director Joshua Bolten about the two-and-a-half (t) trillion-dollar spending proposal.

Congressman John Spratt, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said it paints a "misleading picture" for failing to include the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and privatizing Social Security.

Snow heard criticism that the administration isn't reaching out to Democrats to achieve a bipartisan solution to Social Security.

House Budget Committee Chairman Jim Nussle told Bolten that Republican lawmakers will need "some help" from the administration to get through some of the painful spending proposals.
