California judge cuts short defense for going too far in gang rape case
SANTA ANA, Calif. A retrial of an alleged gang-rape in California barely got started Monday when the judge halted the proceedings. The jury was dismissed for the day after a defense attorney described the alleged victim as a liar, a drug dealer and a "sex-crazed teenager." The judge accuses the lawyer of "stepping over the line."
The case involves three young men accused of gang-raping a 16-year old girl and videotaping it. The defense argues the girl wanted to be a porn star.
Prosecutors say they plan to show jurors the video later in the trial.
Last year, a jury deadlocked on 24 counts, leading to a mistrial.
