NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) -- A Newport police officer has been indicted for an alleged off-duty assault that happened last October. Maurice Sellers, 28, was indicted Tuesday by a state grand jury. He's scheduled to be arraigned in Newport County Superior Court on February 24th on a misdemeanor assault charge.
The Newport Daily News reports that local and state police are not providing any information about the alleged assault, including the name of the alleged victim or where it is alleged to have happened. Attorney General spokesman Mike Healey said Sellers is accused of getting into a fight with another man. Sellers has been placed on administrative duty.
