Rare plant survives, barely
MARSHALL, Calif. And then there were five. California crews clearing a drain have excavated a spot where a rare blooming larkspur grows, destroying 95 of the 100 plants known to exist.
The Marin Independent Journal says the area near a Marin County road is marked to alert workers about the Baker's larkspur, but the workers said they didn't know the exact location.
Botanists and others are conferring on what to do. Very few native plants survive if they're moved.
