Egypt to host Israeli-Palestinian summit next week
JERUSALEM Israeli officials say Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has accepted an invitation to an Israeli-Palestinian summit next week in Egypt. They say Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak (HAHS'-nee moo-BAH'-rahk) invited Sharon and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas (mahk-MOOD' ah-BAHS') to the summit Tuesday at a Red Sea resort.
However, Egyptian officials say it's too soon to announce anything and Abbas couldn't be reached for comment.
This comes during a relatively quiet period in the region and as relations between the two have warmed as of late.
Abbas and Sharon had already tentatively planned to meet Tuesday, though exact time and location of the meeting hadn't been yet.
