Report says Murdoch offers 44 (m) million dollars for apartment

NEW YORK Ruport Murdoch could make New York history if his reported bid to buy a three-story Manhattan penthouse goes through.

The New York Times says the (b) billionaire C-E-O of News Corporation is offering 44 (m) million dollars for the Fifth Avenue pad. If the deal goes through, it would be the most ever paid for a Manhattan apartment.

Last week the New York Post reported the 20-room apartment had been sold. But it didn't say to whom.

It occupies the 14, 15th, and 16th floors of the building and maintenance alone has a monthly tab of more than 21-thousand dollars.

The current record price for a Manhattan apartment was set last year at 42 and a-quarter (m) million dollars.
