Rare right whales reported tangled in ropes off coast of Carolinas
CHARLESTON, S.C. Ships off the coast of the Carolinas are being asked to be on the lookout for two endangered Atlantic right whales both tangled in ropes. A researcher says because right whales can cover more than 100 miles a day, "It's worse than trying to find a needle in a haystack."
If the whales can be found, rescuers would then attach radio transmitters to them and scientists will work to try to disentangle them.
One was spotted December sixth with a line "weaving through its mouth and around its tail."
The other was seen last week.
They say the whales could die if they aren't freed from the lines.
