F-C-C considers allowing high-speed wireless Internet access on commercial jetliners
WASHINGTON Passengers on domestic flights may get the option of cruising the Internet through high-speed wireless connections or chatting on their cellphones while in the air. Federal regulators plan to vote today on whether to allow air travelers wireless high-speed Internet access.
The Federal Communications Commission is also expected to discuss whether to end the cellphone ban.
A passengers' group says both moves would "make business travelers more efficient and while away the time for a lot of other passengers."
However, to allow Internet access the F-C-C would have to restructure how frequencies for such "air-to-ground" services are used and how many companies would be allowed to offer the services.
