Amtrak Investigation Underway After Train Almost Hits Firefighters
Providence - A group of Providence firefighters are lucky to be alive after dodging an Amtrak train traveling through their work area.
An investigation is underway into why an Amtrak train was allowed to go down train tracks in Providence while firefighters were battling a brush fire.
The train dispatcher says he was told by the commander on scene to proceed at a slow pace.
The providence fire chief says it was a serious miscommunication. "We had assurances from dispatchers in Boston that the train had stopped and would not release until our firefighter dispatcher called back."
Amtrak says the standard procedure for emergency operations was followed. The incident is under investigation.
