Reassembled Soviet plane featured at Richmond museum
RICHMOND, R.I. A reassembled Soviet plane is finding a new home at a planned museum in Richmond. The Antonov AN2 "Colt" was designed by Soviet engineers in the mid-1940s. It's one of about five dozen in the United States.
The Quonset Air Museum in North Kingstown obtained a derelict AN2 from government surplus in 1994. It sat there until it was bought earlier this year by the Antonov Foundation, a group comprised of aviation enthusiasts.
The group wanted to put the plane at an air museum at the Westerly State Airport, but was rebuffed. The group's now building a museum at the Richmond Airport.
