Couple charged in toddler's death in court for bail hearing
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

, R.I. (AP) -- The couple accused of beating to death a three-year-old boy in their care are back in court this morning.

Katherine Bunnell and Gilbert Delestre of Woonsocket are appearing at a bail hearing in Providence District Court.

The state plans on calling about six witnesses to testify why the pair should be denied bail, and why charges on murder should move forward.

Bunnell and Delestre are each charged with murder in the death of three-year-old Thomas Wright.

Bunnell was ThomasÔŅĹ biological aunt and his foster mother. An autopsy showed the child died of brain injuries and a skeletal fracture.

Before the hearing today, BunnellÔŅĹs lawyer told reporters Bunnell was NOT involved in the boyÔŅĹs death. Attorney Gerard Donley said there is no legal evidence to connect her with the murder.
