Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Rhode Island's electors officially cast their votes for president today.

The four will cast their votes for one-time Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry at a Statehouse ceremony at noon.

The Electoral College convenes in each of the 50 states today to cast their electoral votes.

On January Fifth, the votes will be counted in Congress and a winner will be declared.

The electors pledged to Kerry say that although he did not get the number of electoral votes needed to win, they're pleased to take part in the democratic process.

The Kerry-Edwards ticket won 59 percent of Rhode Island's popular vote.
