CRANSTON, R.I. Another group of Rhode Island National Guard airmen depart this morning for duty in Southwest Asia.

Forty-eight members of the 143rd Airlift Squadron will deploy this morning to support military operations in the region.

Another ten members of the unit left Friday.

The soldiers depart from Quonset Air National Guard base in North Kingstown.

The unit will deploy using new C130 J30 transport aircraft. It's the first time the U.S. has used this type of plane in support of its operations in Iraq.

Presently, the Rhode Island National Guard has 634 members deployed in seven different countries.
