Grant to help auto salvage yards comply with environmental laws
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The state Department of Environmental Management has been awarded a more than 200,000 dollar grant to help auto salvage yards comply with environmental laws.

The money comes from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The grant is one of ten awarded nationally by the EPA this year.

The Department of Environmental Management said some of the health and environmental risks associated with auto salvage yards include the potential for fire and explosion; soil, surface and groundwater contamination; and air releases of asbestos fibers.

There are 85 auto salvage yards in Rhode Island.
