Huge menorah marks Hanukkah in Jerusalem
JERUSALEM Jerusalem is lit up for the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. At the city's entrance stands a huge menorah, 60 feet tall, with thousands of light bulbs.
Hanukkah -- the festival of lights -- commemorates the ancient Israelites' victory over foreign invaders and the restoration of the Biblical temple after its desecration.
The menorah's eight branches signify the eight days of the holiday. Jews light an additional candle each night.
The one at the entrance to Jerusalem is billed as the world's largest. It's part of a civic project promoting a charity that helps needy children.
