Neighbor says Laci, not Scott, reacted angrily to dog fight
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Witnesses are describing Scott Peterson as a mediator and problem solver as the penalty phase of his trial continues today. A friend says it was Peterson's wife Laci who reacted angrily to a dog fight -- and that Peterson was the one who calmed things down.
Eric Sherar (sher-AHR') was a neighbor to the couple. Sherar says he saw Laci react to a fight between her dog and another one by punching one of the animals. The neighbor says Peterson interceded and mellowed out the situation.
Today's testimony is part of an effort by the defense to show the jury that Peterson is a compassionate person who should be spared the death penalty.
He has been convicted of killing Laci and the couple's unborn child.
