Black police officers claim discrimination within Baltimore department
BALTIMORE A group of current and former black Baltimore police officers is claiming discrimination within the department. The 21 officers have sued the city in federal court, accusing it of allowing a hostile workplace, blocking blacks officers from promotions and retaliating against those who speak out.
The suit alleges some officers have found nooses in their lockers and dog feces on their desks. It also claims racism led to last month's firing of police Commissioner Kevin Clark.
The officers want financial damages and an independent monitor appointed to oversee the department, among other things.
The city says the allegations are untrue.
